The birth of a baby is a miracle every single time. And yet it’s never the same miracle. Every newborn is unique. Even in those first days, you can already sense a little personality: a certain expression while they sleep, the way they hold their hands, a tiny sigh that instantly melts you. And then those hands and feet. You can’t really grasp how small they are until you freeze them in a photo forever.

Sweet Details That Become Priceless Later

As a photographer, I’m always amazed by the little details during newborn sessions. The soft baby hair, the delicate lips, the tiny nails. And yes, the feet. Because in just a few months, you won’t remember how unbelievably small those toes once were. That’s exactly why detail images are so valuable. They bring you right back to that time when everything was new and your heart suddenly beat differently.

And then there are the moments between you. When you hold your baby close and look at them with so much love, like you want to memorize every breath. I capture those moments in a way that feels natural. Not posed, not overproduced. Just close to you.

At Home in Herrsching on Lake Ammersee

What touches me most are the stories and experiences of the families I get to accompany. It’s a true honor to be part of those first days and to create newborn photos that will last a lifetime. That’s why it meant so much to visit this sweet family in Herrsching on Lake Ammersee and photograph them in their beautiful home.

Their little one was absolutely impossible not to fall in love with. And their “big brother” dog showed his best side, too. Details like that are what make your images so personal: who was already there in the beginning? Who sniffed gently, watched closely, curled up nearby like he was saying, “I’ve got you.” That’s how newborn and family photos are created that aren’t just pretty, but truly tell your story.

Newborn Photos in a Cozy, Comfortable Setting: How It Feels Easy

Instead of asking, “When do we have to do this?”, it’s more helpful to ask, “What kind of images do we want to look back on later?” If you want those classic, soft newborn images where your baby still looks extra tiny and naturally snuggles in, then a session in the first days after birth is ideal.

During the session, we take our time. You can nurse, cuddle, and settle in. There’s no pressure and no rigid schedule. I’ll guide you gently so you feel confident, while also leaving space for whatever your baby needs in that moment. That’s how images are created that feel calm, even if everyday life right now is anything but predictable.

Is There a “Right” Time for Newborn Photos?

In real life, there’s a window that tends to work especially well: when you’ve settled in at home just a little, but your baby still has that classic newborn softness. That’s when you capture the details that become priceless later: tiny feet that fit in your hand, little fingers that instinctively hold on, and those delicate facial features that change so quickly.

And most importantly: there is no “perfect” week you have to force. Sometimes you need space after birth. Sometimes the beginning looks different than expected. And sometimes you feel ready after just a few days. We follow your lead, and your baby’s. If earlier feels right, perfect. If you’d rather wait a few more days, that’s just as good.

And if you’re hoping for bright, open eyes and a bit more interaction, a slightly later session can be beautiful, too. Many parents love that mix: a few sleepy images, a few awake looks, and a few family cuddle moments. It makes your gallery feel alive and tells your beginning the way it really was.

Studio or at Home: What Fits Your Story Best?

You have two options, and both can be the right one. In our studio, you get a setup that feels easy: perfect light, different backdrops, curated blankets and accessories, and most importantly, a process where you don’t have to prep a thing. You arrive, and we take care of the rest.

But if you want your home to be part of your images, or if it simply feels like the most relaxed option right now, we can also photograph you at home, just like we did with this family in Herrsching. Your photos naturally become even more personal because they show your real beginning: your space, your light, your closeness.

Either way, the same thing applies: you’ll feel secure because of experience, while still having enough room for real moments to happen. You don’t have to perform. You can simply hold your baby, take a breath, and let yourselves feel the beginning.
