Such a cool idea. Michi gave his wife a gift certificate for family photos for her birthday. At first, a gift like that can feel like “just photos.” But in reality, you’re giving something so much bigger: shared time, real closeness, and memories that will be priceless later on, especially when everyday life is moving faster than you are.

And yes, sometimes it takes a little patience. Our first two dates got completely derailed by the weather. That’s usually the point where a lot of families think, “ah forget it, let’s just drop it.” But on the third try, it worked. And it really worked.

Third Time’s the Charm: Family Photos at Their Favorite Spot

We met at one of the family’s favorite places at Lake Starnberg, and we got lucky. At our time slot, the lake wasn’t too crowded yet. That’s pure gold, because it gives you space. Space to arrive, to run around, to be silly, to cuddle. And that’s exactly how family photos are created that don’t feel overly polished, but feel like you.

If you’re wondering whether your kids will “cooperate,” you don’t need perfect behavior or a perfect plan. Kids can be wild, cheeky, loud, and goofy. That’s not a problem, that’s your real life. And that’s exactly what should show up in your photos.

Two Little Personalities You Recognize Instantly

Just look at these two adorable, sweet, and yet wonderfully mischievous kids. To me, these family photos capture their personalities so clearly. And that’s always the goal: so later you’re not only seeing what you looked like, but who you were.

Sometimes it’s the big moments, when everyone is laughing together. And sometimes it’s the quiet in-between moments: a look that says “that’s my brother,” a hand that holds on for a second, a tiny pout and then an instant grin. That mix is what brings the photos to life.

A Family of Four: Close, Honest, and No Pressure

Even as a family of four, you can tell how well they work as a team. Not because everything goes perfectly, but because you can feel how they are with each other. In my eyes, everything came together in this session: the location, the light, the timing, and most of all your energy together.

And that’s exactly the difference between “nice photos” and images that truly last. You don’t have to pose. You can move, talk to each other, pick your kids up, spin them around, tickle them, and scoop them back in again. I’ll give you prompts that are easy to follow. And then the thing you can’t plan happens on its own: real connection.

Styling That Looks Like You and Photographs Beautifully

Their styling was perfectly coordinated. It doesn’t have to be identical, but when you stay within the same color family and still mix in different patterns or textures, it instantly feels cohesive and also full of life. That’s exactly how family photos look modern and authentic, without feeling overly polished.

When Time Suddenly Flies By

With a sweet, personable, and positive family like this, one that was up for every bit of silliness, time just flies. And that’s the best part: when you leave thinking, not “that wasn’t so bad,” but “that was actually really fun.” Then you don’t just have photos, you have a shared experience you’ll remember fondly.

I truly love being a photographer, especially when I get to capture families exactly as they are: warm, lively, sometimes a little chaotic, and therefore absolutely beautiful.
