How sweet are these photos, seriously? Just looking at them makes me melt. Little Hanna didn’t come to her very first session alone, she brought her best friend: Frieda the dog. And yes, that’s exactly how it feels in the images. Not like an appointment, but like family.

A lot of parents ask me whether pets are really a good idea for a newborn session. My answer: if your pet is part of your life, then they belong in the shoot. That’s what makes your photos so meaningful later on, not only how tiny your baby once was, but also who was already there, right from the start.

From a Newborn Session to the Sweetest Baby Session

After Hanna was born, she had to stay in the hospital a little longer. That’s why we moved the planned newborn session back by a few weeks. And you know what? It turned into an incredibly tender baby session. A little more alertness, a little more expression, those curious looks that already show so much personality.

For you, that means there isn’t just one “right” time. There’s your timing. If things start out differently than planned, your session can still feel easy. With experience, clear planning, and a process that adapts to your baby, we create images that feel right, whether in the first days or a few weeks later.

Frieda: A Natural Model and a True Member of the Family

Frieda had a permanent place in the family long before Hanna was born. And just like during the maternity session, she was part of this shoot, too. And let me tell you, we could all learn a thing or two from Frieda. Perfectly put together, incredibly patient, following every bit of direction, and so photogenic she almost stole the show from Hanna.

Because Frieda truly wanted to be in EVERY single photo. And honestly? That’s exactly the charm. These kinds of images don’t happen when you try to control everything. They happen when you allow your story to be exactly what it is.

Hanna in the Lead, Surrounded by So Much Love

And of course, Hanna was meant to be the star of her newborn session. And she was. Just not on her own, but held in closeness: in hands that support her, in eyes that never leave her, in a mom and dad who cuddle, kiss, and forget there’s even a camera.

In my newborn sessions, I always work with a lot of love and patience. You get time to arrive, to nurse or bottle-feed, to cuddle, and to breathe. I’ll guide you without pushing you into anything that doesn’t feel like you. That’s exactly how those real moments happen, the ones you simply can’t stage.

Hanna looked into the camera with her big, beautiful blue eyes and completely charmed all of us. Those expressions that already hold so much, even though her story has only just begun. And Frieda? She stayed close the whole time. Sometimes as the protector, sometimes as the quiet scene-stealer, and sometimes simply as warm fur right next to the baby.

How to Keep a Newborn Session with Your Dog Relaxed and Safe

If you want your dog in the photos, we plan it intentionally. You’ll get a few simple tips ahead of time that really help: a short walk beforehand, a favorite treat, and a familiar command. We choose setups that are safe and leave plenty of room for breaks. It’s not about your dog “performing.” It’s about you feeling comfortable and the connection staying real.

Whether in the studio with lots of options or outdoors in natural light, we’ll shape the session so it fits you. And if your baby needs a little extra closeness that day, that’s absolutely okay. That’s exactly what experience is for.

Some Sessions Stay with You Forever

This photoshoot will always have a special place in my heart. Hanna and Frieda completely won me over. I fell in love with these two sweet girls and with the photos. Thank you to Hanna’s mom and dad for your trust, and for letting me capture these moments.
